Nokia offers free Lifetime Navigation on Nokia 5800 in India for existing and new customers

Nokia has launched a new version of Nokia Ovi Maps for Nokia 5800 which features a free lifetime Navigation license for all the Nokia 5800 owners. There is no discrimination what so ever depending on the make, purchase date, etc. However, there is a restriction on the models with older version of the firmware. The new Ovi Maps application is compatible only with those Nokia 5800 phones in India which have upgraded to the new firmware v40.0.005.

The nokia ovi maps application offers navigation and all the related services free of cost. Earlier, Nokia charged 599/- per month for the GPS services. With the free navigational service you will get turn by turn voice and visual guidance also.

Unable to upgrade your Nokia 5800 firmware ?

For some of the Nokia 5800 models bought early when it was just launched in Jan 2009, the firmware upgrade to v40.0.005 is not possible. When you try to update using Nokia Software Updater, it identifies your product code and denies the update. You can get over this problem by simply changing the product code of your phone. It is a simple process but yet risky for which the owner of the phone itself will be responsible. Changing the product code takes as less as 30 seconds. You need to use a software called NSS to accomplish this. Please head on to my international blog to get detailed step by step process. 


Currently the following two products are not eligible for the new firmware in India.
0575586: 5800 India CV B v1
0575590: 5800 India CV R v1


Change your product code to the following product codes to get the new firmware.
0573797: APAC2 India Black
0559961: APAC2 India BLUE
0559673: APAC2 India RED

Latest Firmware Upgrade for Nokia 5800 India - v40.0.005

There is a latest firmware upgrade available for users in India. This latest upgrade to firmware version 40.0.005 has brought kinetic scrolling to this device. Apart from this you also have widgetized screen like Nokia 5530 and other variants. There is an overall improvement in touch response and stability of the phone. There are some changes to menu icons and keypad related features also.

However, this upgrade is not available for all the Nokia 5800 phones in India. Check the product code of your phone at the back panel of the phone under the battery. If your phone code falls between

0573797: APAC2 India Black
0559961: APAC2 India BLUE
0559673: APAC2 India RED


then you can update your phone's firmware using the Nokia Software Updater.
